Camera Obscura

"And when I see you, I really see you upside down. But my brain knows better, it picks you up and turns you around." — Death Cab for Cutie "A Lack of Color"

It was Thursday morning. I was fresh out of the shower, and before I'd even gotten my pants on, I saw something unusual.

It took a few seconds for me to realize what I was looking at. It wasn't as clear as it is in the picture. It was fainter—more like a hint of an image. A weird set of squarish bright sections. I put my hand out and traced it back to the window.

There was a gap in the blackout curtains. I'd accidentally made it when I pulled them the night before.

I adjusted them gently, and I got this on the far wall.

It's the neighbor's house!

An accident and a little curiosity turned the room into a camera obscura. Basically, this is a pinhole camera—except the size of the room.

It wasn't something I was looking for, but I was paying attention. That meant I got to see it. And that started the day out right.

Stay curious.
